We’ve already looked at how the British numbering system came into force but haven’t really examined the origins of how numbers came to be on players’ shirts.
To do such a piece, we would like to carry out the necessary research to present a comprehensive piece, but the work has already been done for us by The Fence. We can’t add anything else, so head over there for a read.
